Mounjaro Shortages UK: Latest Updates & What Patients Need to Know (September)

Mounjaro Shortage, Supply Issues, and Rising Costs

After the so-called “Pendemic” disruption in August, Mounjaro is now back in steady supply across the UK. Pharmacies are receiving stock as normal, so patients no longer face the shortages that caused so much frustration earlier this year.

The bigger problem now is cost. From September 2025, Eli Lilly increased UK prices for Mounjaro by up to 170 per cent. The highest-dose 15mg pen that used to cost around £140 – £170 now comes in at roughly £250 – £280. Because of this, sales have slowed, even though supply has finally returned to normal.

For patients, the good news is that Mounjaro supply issues seem to be behind us. The challenge going forward is affordability, as higher prices could make long-term treatment harder to maintain. Pharmacies continue to offer access, but the cost is now the main barrier rather than stock availability.

Wegovy, by contrast, is experiencing only minor supply pressures. Because production is more localised, Novo Nordisk has greater flexibility in managing stock. The company can quickly shift supplies between different European countries, which makes it easier to keep the UK market stable. As a result, while certain doses may run low at times, these shortages are usually short-lived compared with the wider supply challenges Mounjaro has faced.

Mounjaro Shortages: Issues – Pharmacy Check Advised

Please double-check with your pharmacy regarding any supply issues mentioned here. While we strive to keep this information up to date on the Mounjaro shortages. The situation remains fluid.

What Should Mounjaro Patients Do?

1. Contact Your Pharmacy Before Ordering

Some online pharmacies may still accept orders even when stock is low, leading to delays. Call or email them first to confirm availability.

2. Consider Alternative Doses (If Safe & Approved by Your Doctor/Pharmacist)

If your usual dose is unavailable, ask your prescriber if a temporary switch (e.g. lower doses) is an option. Never adjust your dose without medical advice.

3. Be Wary of Misleading Stock Claims

Some affiliates promote competing pharmacies by spreading false shortage claims. Stick to verified sources—check your pharmacy’s official website or customer service.

4. Plan Ahead for Refills

Due to ongoing supply issues, it’s advisable to check stock with your provider around 14 days before you run out of medication to avoid gaps in treatment. As a general rule, aim to reorder when you have a week’s supply remaining—this allows a two-week buffer for delays. Be sure to request clear stock updates, as some providers may be vague about availability. Additionally, certain pharmacies or suppliers may reserve limited stock for existing patients, so early communication is key.

Smaller suppliers often give clearer stock updates than big chains. With fewer patients and simpler systems, they can track medication more closely and give you straight answers—like whether they have your prescription now, when more is coming, or what alternative options might work. Plus, they’re more likely to look after regular customers if stock runs low.

When Will Mounjaro Shortages and Issues Improve?

Supplies of 12.5mg and 15mg pens are expected to remain limited into well into May 2025, but some pharmacies may receive intermittent stock. Smaller doses (2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg) are generally more available.

We’ll update this page as more information comes in—bookmark it for the latest!
