How to Buy Mounjaro in the UK: The Legal Route, Step by Step

Step 1: Check whether you are likely to be eligible

The UK licence for weight management covers adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 alongside at least one weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea or cardiovascular disease. Lower thresholds apply to some ethnic backgrounds where health risk rises at a lower BMI.

Pharmacies then set their own rules within that licence, including the BMI at which they will start you and the BMI at which they will keep prescribing as you lose weight. Some people are not suitable regardless of BMI, including during pregnancy or breastfeeding and with certain medical histories. That is a prescriber’s decision, not a form’s.

Step 2: Choose a registered pharmacy

Every legitimate UK seller is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and displays its premises registration number and superintendent pharmacist. Then compare on price, because the medicine is identical everywhere. Compare the total including consultation and delivery, at the dose you expect to stay on rather than the one you start on, and look at the repeat price as well as the first-order price. Step 3: Complete the consultation

Since February 2025 the GPhC requires online pharmacies to verify your weight and height independently rather than take a form at face value, and to communicate with you before prescribing a weight-management medicine. In practice you should expect:

• A health questionnaire covering your medical history, current medicines, allergies and any previous weight-loss treatment.
• Photographic verification: a full-body photo, your feet on a scale with the reading visible, and height measured against a tape.

• Your GP’s details and consent to notify them. Refusing usually means the pharmacy will decline to prescribe. Our GP notification guide explains why.

A site that lets you add a pen to a basket with no questionnaire, no photos and no prescriber contact is not operating legally. Treat that as the clearest warning sign there is.

Step 4: The prescriber decides

A registered prescriber, a doctor, pharmacist independent prescriber or nurse independent prescriber, reviews your answers and evidence. They may approve, ask for more information, or decline. Approval takes anything from a few hours to two working days, and a query sitting unanswered in your spam folder is the commonest cause of delay. Our prescription time guide breaks down the timings.

Being declined is not a wasted step. It usually means either that the treatment is not clinically appropriate for you, or that something in your evidence did not add up. Most pharmacies refund if they cannot prescribe.

Step 5: Dispensing and delivery

Once approved, the pharmacy labels your pen and packs it with an insulated liner and gel packs, because Mounjaro is stored at 2 to 8C. It goes by tracked next-day courier, usually needing a signature. When it arrives, check the pen is cool, the solution clear and colourless, and the strength and batch match your prescription. Then refrigerate it, or keep it below 30C for up to 30 days.

Step 6: Repeat orders and staying in control

• Reorder with a week of doses left, not on the day you run out.
• Re-compare when you change dose. The pharmacy that was cheapest at 2.5mg often is not at 10mg.

• Watch subscriptions. Check the price after month one and how to pause or cancel before the first payment.
• Report side effects through the Yellow Card scheme as well as telling your prescriber.

What to avoid entirely

• Any seller offering Mounjaro without a consultation or prescription.
• Social media accounts, messaging apps and marketplaces. This is where almost all counterfeit pens circulate.
• Overseas sites shipping to the UK without a UK prescriber.
• Payment by bank transfer or cryptocurrency. No registered pharmacy asks for either.
