Pharmacy Asking for ID Before Mounjaro? Your Options Without a Passport or Driving Licence

No passport is not the same as no ID check

A registered online pharmacy must verify the identity of the person it is assessing before it prescribes a prescription-only medicine. What the guidance does not do is tell every provider to use the same document. Some use an automated identity platform that only recognises passports and driving licences; others can run a database match against your name, date of birth and address, accept alternative photo ID such as a PASS card, or have a pharmacist review your evidence manually.

So the useful question is not “can I get Mounjaro with no ID” but “which verification routes does this pharmacy support”. Any seller that offers prescription medicine with no consultation, no identity process and no clinical check is the thing to avoid, whatever ID you hold.

Find your route in sixty seconds

Pick the situation closest to yours. The pharmacy still makes the final decision, but this saves you completing a whole consultation before finding out what it accepts.

1. You have a current PASS card or CitizenCard. Before uploading anything, ask the pharmacy whether its identity system accepts the physical card, the Post Office EasyID app, or neither. Mention both names; systems list them differently.
2. You have no photo ID at all. Ask about database verification or manual review first. If the pharmacy cannot offer either, apply for a Post Office PASS card using the referee route (below), which needs no existing ID.
3. Your address does not match. Database checks fail when the address on the consultation differs from the electoral roll or credit file. Use your exact legal name, date of birth and current address everywhere, and update the electoral roll if you have moved.
4. You have already paid and then been asked for ID. This is usually a normal step before prescribing, not a refusal. Contact support through the pharmacy’s own account or email, ask for the full list of accepted alternatives, and confirm what happens to your payment if verification cannot be completed.

Why a PASS card may work when you have no passport or driving licence

PASS (the Proof of Age Standards Scheme) is the UK’s national proof-of-age scheme, backed by the Home Office and the police. A PASS card carries a hologram, your photograph, name and date of birth, and is accepted as photo ID by many retailers and services. The Post Office PASS card is issued by CitizenCard. Because it is photo ID with a verified date of birth, it is relevant to a pharmacy identity check, but a pharmacy that relies on an automated document scanner may not have it on the supported list. Always confirm first.

Getting a Post Office PASS card with no existing ID

• Referee route. If you have no passport or driving licence, the application can be countersigned by a referee in a recognised profession who is not related to you, in the same way a passport application can.
• Photo. A passport-quality photograph against a plain background.
• Cost and time. At the time of writing, £15 with delivery within about three weeks, or £30 for the urgent service within about two working days. Check the Post Office page for current figures before you apply.
• Digital version. The card can be added to the Post Office EasyID app, which proves age online. That does not mean every pharmacy’s identity platform accepts EasyID; ask about the card and the app separately.

Identity, address and eligibility are three different checks

A PASS card answers the first question and, on its own, neither of the others. If a pharmacy accepts it and then asks for proof of address or a video weigh-in, that is the process working, not the pharmacy moving the goalposts. Get a clear answer before you pay

Send this to the pharmacy’s support team before you start a consultation. It takes them two minutes to answer and can save you a refund chase.

• Ask about the card and the app separately. A pharmacy might accept the physical card but not EasyID, or use a platform that supports neither.
• Match your details exactly. Same legal name, date of birth and current address on the consultation, the document and the electoral roll.
• Read the privacy notice. It should say who performs the identity check and what is done with the image of your document.
• Understand the payment sequence. Some pharmacies take payment before the prescriber reviews you. Confirm the refund position if verification or prescribing cannot proceed.

If the ID request appeared after you paid

1. Use the pharmacy’s secure account messaging or its official support email, not a social media DM.
2. Say that the documents you lack are a passport and driving licence, and list what you do have.
3. Ask for every alternative and manual route it offers.
4. If none works, ask for written confirmation of cancellation and the refund terms. Do not upload someone else’s document or edit your own.

Why regulated pharmacies verify more than your name

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, and an online prescriber is making decisions without the in-person cues a clinic would have. The General Pharmaceutical Council’s guidance for pharmacies providing services online therefore expects a provider to confirm the person is who they say they are, and, for weight-management medicines specifically, to use robust identity processes, to verify information independently rather than rely on a questionnaire, and to verify height, weight or BMI appropriately. The checks serve four purposes:

• The right person. The assessment, the prescription and the supply must all relate to the person who will use the medicine.
• A safe decision. The prescriber needs accurate information about you, not about whoever filled in the form.
• No duplicate supply. Identity checks reduce the risk of one person obtaining the medicine through several accounts or several pharmacies.
• Genuine measurements. Independent weight verification stops the licence criteria being met on paper only.

Three shortcuts to avoid

• Using someone else’s ID. The consultation and prescription would then belong to a person who is not taking the medicine. It is fraud, and it removes every safeguard designed to protect you.
• Buying through social media or messaging apps. An offer to skip the consultation and the ID check is not convenience; it is the profile of a falsified-medicine seller. Our GPhC verification guide shows how to check any seller in two minutes.
• Sending your ID over WhatsApp or email on request. Use the pharmacy’s secure upload inside its own consultation system. A legitimate pharmacy will not ask for a photo of your passport in a chat message.
