Mounjaro dizziness and low blood pressure
Dizziness and low blood pressure are listed as common side effects in people using Mounjaro for weight management. Dizziness does not always mean your blood pressure is low: it can also be caused by dehydration, low blood sugar, anaemia, illness, an inner-ear problem or another medicine.
Why can it happen during weight loss?
- Drinking less than your body needs
- Vomiting or diarrhoea
- Eating very little
- Low blood sugar when using insulin or a sulphonylurea
- Blood-pressure medication becoming stronger than needed as weight falls
- Standing up quickly
- Alcohol
- Hot weather
What may help?
Get up slowly from bed or a chair and hold onto something stable if needed. Drink regularly and avoid long periods without food.
If you have access to a validated home monitor, record your blood pressure while seated and again when symptoms occur. Keep a note of the readings, your pulse, injection date and any vomiting or diarrhoea.
Do not drive, cycle or use machinery while dizzy or while your vision is affected.
When should you get medical advice?
Contact your prescriber or GP if dizziness:
- Keeps returning
- Began after a dose increase
- Is accompanied by repeated low blood-pressure readings
- Is causing falls
- Comes with palpitations
- Prevents normal activities
- Occurs alongside persistent vomiting or diarrhoea
Seek urgent help for fainting, chest pain, severe breathlessness, confusion, a new irregular heartbeat, signs of stroke, or dizziness accompanied by a severe allergic reaction.
If you take Mounjaro with insulin or a sulphonylurea, check your blood sugar when possible because dizziness may be a hypo symptom.
