What is Monj? – Built for Patients & Community
You may be wondering, what is Monj? Why use the Monj website?
At Monj, we believe healthcare should serve people, not profit margins. That’s why we’ve built something fundamentally different.
We’re proud to be a completely independent and ethically driven platform, one that puts transparency, patient safety, and affordability at the heart of everything we do, we’re here to bring down healthcare prices and you will see prices lower here than anywhere else.
We’re proud to be a truly independent and ethically driven platform, built on the principles of transparency, patient safety, and affordability, not profit at any cost.
As more so-called comparison websites duplicate what we’re doing, it’s crucial to ask:
Are they genuinely independent?
Or are they owned or controlled—directly or indirectly—by the very pharmacies they promote?
Some companies and pharmacies have quietly launched their own comparison sites to funnel users toward their own services, under the appearance of impartiality. This practice raises serious legal and ethical questions. Under UK law, such behaviour may breach:
- The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, which prohibit misleading commercial practices, including failing to disclose commercial intent or falsely claiming to be impartial.
- The CAP Code (UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing), which requires that marketing communications are obviously identifiable and not misleading.
- The Human Medicines Regulations 2012, which restrict the advertising of prescription-only medicines to the public and set clear standards for responsible promotion.
Keep Your Eyes Open!
Regulators, including the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), are already aware of and investigating some of these practices due to concerns they may be intentionally misleading—and potentially unlawful.
The reality is this: some of these platforms are marketing in disguise, created not to help patients but to generate profit for a single provider, often without clear disclosure.
We believe patients deserve better—genuinely independent, transparent, and ethical platforms that put people, not profits, first.
Yes, We Earn Commissions — But We Choose to Earn Less
It’s important to be transparent: Monj earns commissions when users choose a pharmacy through our platform. That’s standard practice in the industry.
But here’s what makes us different — we actively ask pharmacies to pay us less, so that more of that money can go directly back to the patient. This isn’t just talk. Several pharmacies have already agreed to reduce commissions, and as a result, Monj users are now receiving lower prices simply because we’ve chosen to put patient savings ahead of platform profit.
Monj doesn’t believe in squeezing extra revenue out of vulnerable patients. We believe in building a better system.
Monj, Sets Higher Standards — Even When Others Don’t
Behind every pharmacy patient is a person who needs safe, reliable access to medication. That’s why we go beyond surface-level checks and carry out our own independent verifications on all pharmacies we list.
This includes ensuring proper cold chain handling for temperature-sensitive medications, a critical safety issue that is often overlooked, even by regulators. If a pharmacy doesn’t meet these standards, we won’t list them. Period.
And importantly, we never allow commission or payment to affect ranking. Listings are sorted by verified price and safety — nothing else.
Some patients say their GPs suggested exploring private weight-loss treatments, leading them to Monj as a trusted comparison tool.
We’re Not For Sale!
Monj operates independently; no pharmacy or company owns, runs, or has any control over us! We don’t accept payment just for visibility, and we refuse to let advertising money or commercial pressure influence the results we show. We won’t show anything that breaks marketing laws, used by some larger companies to distort the market. There are Competition Market Authority guidelines that we adhere to.
Monj has received multiple offers to be acquired, all of which we’ve turned down. We’re not here to cash out. Ordinary people run Monj because we believe everyone deserves fairer, safer access to healthcare.
One company even told us, “If you don’t sell, we’ll just replicate your website.” That’s their choice. Our response is simple: we’ll keep focusing on what patients actually want, transparency, ethics, and lower prices. We’re not here to compete on power. We’re here to stand up for patients.
We exist to give patients and pharmacies a level playing field, and to hold healthcare providers to a higher ethical bar, not to turn healthcare into a bidding war.
A Disturbing Trend: Pharmacies Pretending to Be Independent
In recent months, we’ve been informed of and also uncovered a deeply concerning trend: websites that appear to be independent, unbiased platforms are in fact being run directly by the pharmacies they promote, or by marketers whose only priority is maximising commission and showing misleading prices.
Worse still, we’ve gathered evidence that some regulated pharmacies are deliberately creating and operating fake ‘consumer platforms’ — pretending to be impartial, while funnelling users toward their own services. These operations are designed to build false trust while hiding their true motives.
If you spot something by a pharmacy, please report it, to us if you like, or the GPhC, MHRA, ASA, CQC or CMA
Some of these platforms actively promote pharmacies that cut corners on safety, mislead customers, or fail to meet basic care standards. Their rankings are based on who pays the most, not who serves patients’ best interests. It’s deceptive, unethical, and in some cases, may be illegal.
We are currently compiling evidence and intend to report this behaviour to regulators, and where appropriate, to law enforcement. Patients deserve clear, honest guidance, not manipulation disguised as independent advice.
We Give Back, Because It’s the Right Thing to Do
We’re committed to sharing our success by donating 20% of our verified annual profits to charity at the end of each financial year.
This approach ensures our charitable donations are based on real, audited figures — keeping everything open and honest.
What Is Monj Doing? & Our Promise
We know the healthcare system isn’t perfect. But that’s exactly why Monj exists — to offer something better.
- We put patients before profits. No pharmacy is perfect but someone needs to stand up to corruption.
- We take less commission and ask that the difference goes directly to you.
- We carry out safety checks that others ignore, including regulators.
- We refuse to sell rankings, visibility, or influence.
- And we stand up to unethical practices, even when it’s uncomfortable to do so.
We are here for people, not profit margins.
Thank you for choosing Monj. Together, we’re building a healthcare space that’s honest, transparent, and truly patient-first.
